A little’ history of a timeless object.
His name brings to mind Mickey Mouse comics. An onomatopoeia that takes us back to childhood…Three letters that mimic the sound of a slap or the sound made by a compact but elastic or soft body or object.
This is the name engraved on the new product in the LAPAP range: the fly swatter or flybreaker, an object that is always useful, especially in the hot season, to get rid of annoying insects.
It seems that the invention of the first “fly-killer” was the work of the American Robert R. Montgomery in the early years of ‘900.
The first version of the product was made with a metal mesh fixed to a handle made of elastic material.
In 1905, the Head of the Kansas State Department of Public Health began using it on a large scale to try to combat the proliferation of flies, responsible for the transmission of numerous infectious and deadly diseases. He was responsible for the name “Fly-Swatter – Fly Swatter”.
Even after the advent of DDT, repellents and numerous insecticides, the fly swatter is still among us!
