In our grandmothers’ kitchens it was an unmissable object. Household shops and market stalls always have one available to their customers. We are talking about the sink carpet.
Non-slip and scratch-resistant, the carpet made of PVC or rubber, protects the surfaces of the sink from possible scratches caused by crockery and cutlery during washing, on the other hand it creates a soft support base for glasses, plates and other delicate crockery.
Although it is made of plastic materials that are inorganic and therefore cannot be a source of nourishment for mushrooms or mould, sometimes we find ourselves having to solve the problem of mold sticking to the carpet.
So what is the cause of mold?
Mushrooms and molds feed on organic materials such as small (even imperceptible to the human eye) food residues.
Rinsing the carpet with running water after washing the dishes may not be enough.
To counteract and avoid the formation of mold or fungi on the sink carpets and on the surfaces of the sink itself, correct and constant cleaning is therefore essential to ensure the complete removal of organic material.
For optimal sanitization of plastic sink carpets, we recommend periodically soaking them in hot water with normal dishwashing detergent.
Leave to soak for some time;
Clean the surface with a toothbrush that will allow you to eliminate residues even in the most difficult corners;
Rinse well and let dry.
To sanitize deeply, bicarbonate of soda or white wine vinegar can be used in addition to normal dishwashing detergent, which also helps eliminate bad odors.
